As far back as I can remember, I’ve always been fascinated with photography, and I’ve been told I have a unique perspective on the world around me. This family photograph (that’s me on the left, my twin sister on the right) is evidence of that.
Though I’ve pursued photography since I was a child, around the corner and around the globe, over the past few years I have been sharing my art more and more. Beyond their immediate aesthetic impression, my goal is for my images to convey context, history, emotion… and therefore, connection.
While I feel sharing my work is often what makes it complete, the connection is internal as well as external. Photography is art therapy to me, and my photographic expression is not only an outlet for creative energy, but also helps me continue to define my life and my universe.
Having dabbled in watercolors and other media, I’ve found the experience both rewarding and enjoyable. But as a visual artist, expressing myself through a camera lens is my ‘first language’.

| 'ROAD TRIP: Images from Across the Street and Across the Country’ an exhibit by Hallowell art photographer Nancy McGinnis, opens SATURDAY, AUGUST 22nd, at HALLOWELL & WINE Bistro at 122 Water Street in historic downtown Hallowell. Featured works, with subjects ranging from Hallowell to Las Vegas, include spectacular 'birdseye' aerial views and selections from her evolving ‘PiXeLS at PLaY’ series: a sometimes painterly, sometimes edgy, often whimsical deconstructed reinterpretation of traditional photography. You are cordially invited to a ‘meet the artist’ opening reception Saturday afternoon, August 22nd from 2-4 pm; the exhibit and sale continues during business hours through Sept. 12th at Hallowell & Wine, on Water Street in downtown Hallowell. |
